Gardening is a fun, enjoyable hobby that has something to offer almost anyone. Whether you are growing in a traditional space like a backyard or a more vertical, urban environment, there are essential gardening supplies that every gardener needs in order to have a successful harvest. In this article, we will explore the different supplies needed if you are looking to venture into Aquaponics, Hydroponics, Vertical Gardening, or Urban Gardening.

Aquaponics and Hydroponics

Aquaponics and Hydroponics are two popular methods of gardening that use water instead of soil. Each of these systems rely on an array of specialized equipment and supplies to ensure plants receive proper nutrients and water. For both of these types of systems, you will want to invest in a quality pump, a timer, a nutrient solution, air stones and air pumps, and a fish tank or other container that can hold and filtrate the water. Additionally, depending on the system being used, you may need to purchase hydroton, expanded clay pellets, grow stones, or other media to hold and feed the plants.

Vertical and Urban Gardening

If you are looking to transform a small space into a garden, then vertical or urban gardening may be the route for you. Urban gardening is great for small, tightly packed city environments and utilizes containers, wall planters, and hanging baskets to maximize growing potential. For vertical gardening, you will need to invest in some kind of trellis or support system for your plants. Plant stakes, clips, wires, and yoyo hangers are all useful for ‘training’ the plants up a trellis or wall. Alternatively, you can also try a Scrog net which features small holes to tuck stems and branches through. Trellis netting is often used to cover vertical structures when growing vines and other plants that require support.

Types of gardening

No matter what kind of gardening you are doing, there is a range of supplies to choose from. Whether it is Aquaponics, Hydroponics, Vertical Gardening, or Urban Gardening, there is something out there for everyone. Investing in the right supplies will help ensure you get the most out of your gardening experience. If you are just starting out, research different gardening methods and the associated supplies to find out which is best for you. Apart from the supplies mentioned above, most types of gardening come with other general supplies that are recommended. These supplies typically include a watering can, hose, garden tools, pruners, and a lawn and garden fertilizers. Additionally, protective gear like gloves, safety glasses, and sunscreen are all necessary for successful gardening. Gardening requires patience and diligence, and having the right tools can make the process smoother and more enjoyable. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned pro, having the right supplies is key to any successful harvest.
